The Maserati MC20 supercar is without a doubt the most interesting car produced by the Italian automaker in a long time. Elegant aesthetics, with a mid-mounted 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine cranking out an impressive 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph. For some time now, a droptop variant has been the only thing missing, but that’s changing pretty soon.
Maserati has just released the first official photos of the upcoming MC20 with the retractable roof. While no specific detailed have been released, the new model, which is wrapped in a cloud camouflage livery, seemingly features a folding hardtop that helps maintain that sleek roofline from the coupe. Just like the coupe variant, the convertible is entirely constructed from composites and carbon fiber which should help mitigate any additional weight added by the top mechanism and any reinforcements.
According to Maserati’s 2020 product plan, the MC20 convertible goes on sale in 2022. The exact timing of the launch is yet to be disclosed, but this preview suggests an official unveiling might not be too far away. The plan also says the electric variant is coming in 2022. Although, Maserati hasn’t revealed any details about this model.
