The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor has just made its debut, and it is indeed a sight to behold. Even though regular Bronco was already hype-worthy especially in the off-roading community, the SUV has now undergone a wild overhaul as the Bronco Raptor, by Ford Performance which is the same unit responsible for the F-150 Raptor.
The Ford Bronco Raptor is inspired by Ultra4 Racing, and it is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0L EcoBoost engine with model-specific tuning that will deliver more than 400 horsepower, making it the most powerful street-legal Bronco thus far.
The makeover also features an extensive list of Raptor-exclusive upgrades like the HOSS 4.0 race-ready suspension system, a fully-boxed frame with new shock towers, a wider track, a standard 37-inch K02 all-terrain tires, heavy-duty bash and skid plates, reinforced pillars, as well as competition-grade axles sourced from the Bronco DR race truck.
“We had to build the Bronco Raptor — it’s our ultimate vehicle for hardcore off-road enthusiasts who demand something more,” said Carl Widmann, Ford Performance chief engineer. He added, “Like the Ultra4 desert race trucks, the ‘Raptor of SUVs’ conquers desert dunes at highway speeds and is equipped with competition-level off-road technology and hardware.”
To be able to achieve the aforementioned, Ford increased the track width, added new driveshafts and axles, with a higher ground clearance of 13.1 inches, 4.8 inches more than a base four-door model. Two 17-inch x 8.5-inch Beadlock-capable wheels, intercooling and air-induction systems have been implemented to help the vehicle cope with hotter and harsher conditions, and seven driver modes are available for the driver to choose from.
Additional features include LED headlights with amber daytime running lamps and integrated amber marker lamps, a modular steel front bumper with tow hooks, removable bumper end caps, and removable Rigid LED fog lamps and Rigid off-road lamps. The interior has also been updated with a new Performance View feature on the dash cluster, a Raptor-exclusive steering wheel with magnesium paddle shifters, high-bolster front seats, Ford Performance Code Orange accents, Black Onyx marine-grade vinyl seats, available laser-perforated Black Onyx Neo suede seats, and available Code Orange seat belts.
“As the most badass Bronco yet, the Bronco Raptor design is extreme. It’s muscular, while maintaining an underlying simplicity with performance-focused details added only for outstanding high-speed capability,” said Paul Wraith, Bronco design chief. The Ford Bronco Raptor will be available to order from March 2022. Check out the official photos and video above.
