Chevrolet unveiled its very first electric pickup truck – the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, on Wednesday at the ongoing CES show, and it is very evident that they are out to give the Ford F-150 Lightning serious competition. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado electric pickup truck looks nothing like its ICE brother; these facts set it apart from the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, which is practically the F-150 crew cab converted to electric power.
The Silverado EV is scheduled for arrival in spring 2023 as a 2024 model in WT trim for fleets and consumers, and it is based on the Ultium component set pioneered by the GMC Hummer EV and using the same motors and batteries. The price of this base model is set at $39,900 USD plus destination, and it will come with front and rear motors producing 510 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque. With standard all-wheel drive, it will be able to tow up to 8,000 lb and carry a payload of up to 1,200 lb.
Chevrolet will release the top-line RST First Edition model of the Silverado EV in the fall of 2023, for $105,000 USD plus destination. It will come fully loaded, but with lesser features than the First Edition Hummer EV and both versions will launch with the Hummer EV’s 24-module battery pack which has 200 kwh of capacity. The Silverado EV RST model will feature dual motors as well which will produce 664 hp an 780 lb-ft of torque in Wide Open Watts mode. Similar to the Hummer’s Watts To Freedom mode, the RST will unlock the best performance when the batteries and motors are in the right operating parameters and enable a 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than 4.5 seconds and it will be able to tow up to 10,000 lb and carry 1,300 lb of payload.
Both the WT and RST trims will offer about 400 miles of driving range and the battery will be able to charge at up to 350 kw, which Chevrolet says will add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. The Chevrolet Silverado EV will be available with 10 outlets to charge items at campsites or job sites, including a 240-volt outlet in the bed. It will offer 10.2 kw of charging capacity and will be able to charge other EVs similar to the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EV. Check out the photos below.
